Fleas, ticks and worms are a year-round issue in the UK, not just in summer: central heating keeps fleas going through winter. A simple calendar makes it easy to stay on top of treatments.

How to use this calendar
How often you treat depends on the product, so always follow the interval on the pack and choose the correct product for your pet's species and weight. Never use a dog product on a cat. Your vet can recommend a plan for your pet's age, health and lifestyle.
A simple routine
- Every month: write the date you treated on a calendar or phone reminder, and set the next date from the pack interval.
- Weigh your pet regularly, especially puppies and kittens, so you pick the right dose band.
- Spring and summer: check for ticks after walks in long grass and woodland and remove them with a proper tick tool.
- Autumn and winter: fleas thrive in warm homes. Treat the home as well as the pet if you spot them.
- Worming: follow the interval on your wormer and ask your vet how often suits your pet.

Treat the home too
Most of a flea population lives in carpets and bedding as eggs and larvae. Wash bedding hot, vacuum often and use a household flea spray as directed.
